Avian Influenza is a contagious viral infection which can affect all species of birds. Young fattening turkeys and laying hens are usually the most affected species. Free-living birds tend to act as primary introduction of infection into domestic poultry and free-living birds can carry these viruses without becoming ill due to natural resistance.
The main symptoms are:-
- Loss of appetite
- Cessation of egg laying
- Nervous signs
- Swelling and blue discolouration of combs and wattles due to the disturbance of blood circulation
Disease prevention can be achieved with good housekeeping using Defence 7.
